Samuel Kuzuitzky, the only Jewish naval captain in the former Russian Merchants Fleet, died in Vilna yesterday at the age of 57.
Mr. Kuznitzky assumed first command of the ship in 1888 and sailed on all seas. He was the inventor of a special type of anchor, His services were recognized by the Czarist Naval Ministry which granted him monetary rewards and a testimonial for his invention. He was also the author of a short practical handbook on navigation, published in Astrakhan in 1888 in Russian. During the war he was the administrator of the Ural Fleet.
