Samuel Moskovitch Dead at 71

Samuel Moskovitch, 71, Mayor of this Montreal suburb and a long-time leader in B’nai B’rith, died here Sunday. He was stricken while addressing a local audience. Moskovitch was prominent in B’nai B’rith affairs for almost 50 years, was president of B’nai B’rith District 1 in 1951-52 when it embraced New York, New England and eastern Canada.

He helped to establish a separate Canadian district which he represented from 1959 to 1965 as a member of B’nai B’rith’s International Board of Governors. Moskovitch was a past campaign chairman of Montreal’s combined Jewish Appeal, a founder and chairman of the city’s Council of Jewish Health Agencies and active in many Jewish communal agencies. A popular civic figure in Cote St. Luc, he was several times elected Mayor without opposition.
