Samuel Rubin, president of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation and honorary chairman of the First International Harp Festival and Contest, was honored today at a reception in the Israel Consulate here. Consul General Simcha Pratt also welcomed back members of the jury and winning contestants from the United States and Canada who participated in the First International Harp Festival and Contest which took place in Israel.

Held September 15-29 with the participation of 33 contestants from 11 countries, the event was so successful that the Second International Harp Festival and Contest will take place in Israel in 1962, and every three years thereafter.

Mr. Pratt presented Mr. Rubin with a specially-struck commemorative harp medal in appreciation of his role in reviving the popularity of King David’s ancient instrument. It was the Rubin Academy of Music in Jerusalem and the Israel Festival Committee in cooperation with the Israel Government Tourist Office which sponsored the International Harp Festival and Contest. Commemorative harp medals were also presented in Israel to the members of the jury and to the contestants.
