Samuel Tallman, the American Jew whose dead and mutilated body was found yesterday on a roadside between Berlin and Posen, was a resident of Paterson, N. J., the American consulate informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today.
Relatives of Tallman in the United States were informed by cable of his death.
The consulate sent an undertaker to bring the body to Berlin.
Considerable space is devoted by the press to this case, which is termed mysterious. The conductor of the train and passengers were questioned, but have been unable to offer any clues as to what occurred. None heard a call for help or any cry.
The authorities have established that Tallman’s luggage, believed stolen, at first, was shipped direct to Poland from Bremen. No handluggage was found in his compartment.
