The formation of a citizens committee to work for the enactment of a city ordinance to outlaw religious and racial discrimination in the leasing and sale of private housing in San Francisco was announced here today.
The proposed ordinance is now before the city Board of Supervisors. It follows the pattern of the bill defeated in the last session of the California Legislature. Its provisions would make it a crime to refuse to rent or sell housing facilities to any person because of races, creed or national origin. Supporting the measure are the Jewish Community Relations Council, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the Council for Civic Unity.
