A strike of Jerusalem’s sanitation workers went into its fourth day today. The municipality issued appeals to the populace today to burn refuse or bury garbage, so as to prevent the spread of disease as a result of unsanitary conditions.
All 350 of the city’s sanitation employees are participating in the walk-out, involving demands for higher wages. Makeshift incinerators are being used by many householders, as refuse and other uncollected debris have piled up, reaching menacing proportions.
