The Congregacao Israelita, Hebrew Congregation of Sao Paulo, today marked its fifth anniversary with an appeal to its members to double its membership.
The congregation now issues the only publication dealing with Jewish affairs in Brazil as a result of an official decree last week prohibiting the publication of any Jewish newspapers, even though they appear in Portuguese.
Pursuant with the law the Cronica Israelite, the synagogue’s magazine, is published in Portuguese. Most of the congregation is composed of refugee German Jews.
