Financial contributions by American Jews to Israel are increasing, spurred by the seriousness of Israel’s security position which is given prominence on American television, radio and in the press, former Finance Minister Pincus Sapir reported today on his return from a visit to the U.S. Mr. Sapir is Minister-Without-Portfolio.
He said that the sale of Israel Bonds in the U.S. netted $75 million during the first six months of 1969, compared to $51 million in the same period of 1968. He reported that he had received a $3,5 million donation from an American family, whose name he did not disclose for construction of a maritime school in Haifa. Israel has a maritime college at Acre across the bay from Haifa.
