The Prime Minister’s United Jewish Appeal 250-member delegation had a heavy schedule on its last day of the fact-finding mission. The delegates had a breakfast session with Minister of Finance Pinhas Sapir who in reply to questions said that 150,000 housing units will be constructed within the next three years: 50,000 will go to new immigrants, 50,000 for young couples and the remainder will be used for large families. A small percentage will be for the private market as well.
In view of the rising costs of immigration, Sapir urged the delegates: “You must tell your friends in the American Jewish community that we need your help now more than ever.”
The mission had–after working sessions of various committees on subjects like social welfare housing education and Malben-JDC–a meeting with the new American Ambassador, Kenneth Keating. The afternoon was spent in Jerusalem with a visit to Yad Vashem, the Western Wall and then a dinner by Premier Golda Meir at the Knesset building. The delegates leave Israel tonight.
