Pinhas Sapir, chairman of the Jewish Agency Executive, urged world Jewry today to make a more intensive effort to increase their contributions to the United Jewish Appeal despite adverse economic conditions in their respective countries. Addressing the Executive, Sapir praised the work of UJA leaders in the United States and Keren Hayesod in other countries. He reported that the UJA collected more than $222 million in 1974 and the Keren Hayesod more than $167 million. It was a commendable achievement but was far from answering Israel’s needs and substantive outs are therefore necessary in the Jewish Agency’s budget, Sapir said.
