Saul Kaplan, recently retired director of research at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, died July 27 in Miami, Fla., it was reported here by the JF. He was 65 years old. During his 12 years in Chicago, his department was instrumental in preparing studies that led to major Federation programs, including the establishment of its newest agency, the Council for Jewish Elderly.
A former research statistician for the U.S. Bureau of Public Assistance and the U, S. Bureau of the Census, Kaplan was the only Federation research director to be an associate scientific consultant in the National Jewish Population Survey. Prior to joining Federation, he was the research director. Health and Welfare Association of Allegheny County (Pa.).
