A warning that relaxation in fund-raising for Israel would be “tantamount to writing a slow death warrant for those Jews who still need help” was voiced last night by Gen. Chaim Laskov, Israel Chief of Staff.
Speaking to members of the Canadian Jewish Study Mission at a dinner here, he said that “world Jewry now has the time and the duty to prepare for the immigration and absorption tasks facing Israel. History will Judge the present generation harshly if its support proved to be too little and too late.”
Earlier the mission was received by President Ben-Zvi and Prime Minister Ben-Gurion, who urged the members to send their children to Israel for a year of study and who stressed the importance of learning Hebrew by Jews living outside of Israel.
