The Jewish situation in Eastern Europe is worse today than ever before, according to Dr. Henry Moskowitz, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the American Ort, who has just returned from a six-weeks stay in Europe, where he participated in the World Ort Conference in Berlin.
The financial depression in the United States has aggravated the situation of European Jewry, according to Dr. Moskowitz, who declares that the Ort, which is conducting wide relief activity in Europe, is one of the chief sufferers from the American financial depression. Dr. Moskowitz hopes, however, that the Ort will be able to raise at least its minimum budget through an increased interest in the Allied Jewish campaign.
While in Geneva, the headquarters of the League of Nations, Dr. Moskowitz negotiated with the representative of the Polish government about allowing machines from American relatives to enter Poland tax-free. The Polish representative promised to present this proposal before the Ministerial Council of the Republic
