That “Henry Morgenthau tacitly endorses the anti-Semitic campaign which is now sweeping the country” was the charge made by Judge Bernard A. Rosenblatt at a meeting of the Campaign Committee of the Keren Hayesod at the Hotel Pennsylvania Wednesday night.
New York’s quota was set at 2 millions in the drive which is to begin next week with the arrival of Dr. Chaim Weizmann.
Referring to Zionism as a means for combatting anti-Semitism, Rosenblatt accused Morgenthau of endorsing “the campaign of abuse which has been launched against American Jews of Eastern European origin”.
“Morgenthau is of German Jewish origin” said Rosenblatt, “and has therefore nothing to lose by an attack against Jews of Russia and Poland”.
“Morgenthau,” he continued, “did not represent American Jewry and would not be elected to the Board of Aldermen if his name appeared on three tucjets at once, if there were enough Jewish residents in the districts.
