Characterizing the reafforestation of Palestine undertaken by the Jewish National Fund as a service of tremendous significance not alone to the Jewish people who look forward to the establishment of a homeland there, but to all mankind, Governor Gifford Pinchot, addressing a conference of Jewish communities in Pennsylvania, congratulated the Jewish people on this undertaking and expressed hope this effort will be carried to a successful conclusion.
Representatives of more than twenty communities in Pennsylvania attended the conference and pledged to plant sufficient trees to justify a Pennsylvania grove in the contemplated Washington Forest. Governor Pinchot is honorary chairman of the Pennsylvania Committee.
Jacob B. Hoffman, State Chairman, welcomed the delegates and expressed the hope that this conference would be a signal for renewed activity on behalf of Palestine throughout Pennsylvania.
Speaking in behalf of the Jewish Community of Philadelphia, Jacob Ginsburg, editor and publisher of the Jewish World, pointed to the fact that despite the depression, the Jewish community of his city has kept faith with Palestine.
Nelson Ruttenberg, president of the Jewish National Fund, reported on the progress which the Washington Forest project is making throughout the country and appealed to Pennsylvania to do its share.
Following adjournment of the State Legislature, now in session, Jewish members of that body attended the conference in a body and pledged support to the Forest.
