The “Frankfurter Zeitung,” commenting on the decision of the League Council to appoint a commission of three to solve the Wailing Wall question, says: “The British should be happy that they won’t be hereafter the only ones who will bear the responsibility for the solution of this complicated question. The fact is that the Palestine situation wasn’t cleared up as a result of the hearing before the Shaw Commission. The hearing only revealed a terrible picture of in competency on the part of the Mandatory Power. Mr. Luke had to admit that the riots came as a complete surprise to the government, which is a virtual admission of failure.
“The Wailing Wall question is very important for the solution of the Holy Land’s problems, but as long as the Balfour Declaration remains in force the Palestine problem will exist.”
