Charging that Reinhold Walter, president of the Friends of New Germany, violated section 1425 of the penal law by defacing the shield of the United States in using it, with the swastika, as an emblem, Edgar Burman, national chairman of the Anti-Nazi Committee of the Jewish War Veterans, yesterday swore out a summons against Walter. The summons was signed by Magistrate Francis J. Erwin, now sitting in the Second District magistrate’s court at 425 Sixth avenue.
The emblem of the Nazi organization consists of an American shield surmounted by an American eagle. In the center of the shield is a circle enclosing a swastika and the legend, “Freunden des neuen Deutschland.”
