The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations today denounced a plan by what it termed a “militant” Jewish group to harass Egyptian diplomats in New York. The group, calling itself the Jewish Committee for Concern, said it planned to harass the Egyptians in order to disrupt American-Egyptian relations.
Rabbi Alexander M. Schindler, chairman of the Presidents Conference, said that the group’s plan to harass the Egyptians “will serve no useful purpose. It certainly will not advance the cause of peace. All responsible members of the American Jewish community will surely join me in condemning such activities. Wreckers of the peace are not welcome, whether they wear sheets or Stars of David, whatever be their base or plan of operations.”
