Benjamin Schlessinger, former president of the International Ladies’ Garment Workers’ Union, was unanimously chosen by the Union’s general executive board to succeed Morris Sigman in that post. Mr. Sigman resigned several days ago.
Mr. Schlessinger, who was one of the builders of the Union, held the office of president for many years, retiring because of ill health in 1923.
Upon his election, the new president declared that he hopes to unite all elements in the garment union with a view of pursuing an energetic activity towards the betterment of the conditions of the workingman in the trades represented by the organization.
