The establishment in Jerusalem of the Schocken Institute for Jewish Research of The Jewish Theological Seminary of America was announced today in New York by Dr. Bernard Mandelbaum, seminary provost, and in Jerusalem by Mr. Gidon Schocken, chairman of the Institute’s board of directors. The Institute, which will be a center for research, is based upon the Schocken Library and its research institutes.
Dr. Mandelbaum explained that the program for the development of the Institute calls for the designation of research students who will work under the guidance of the faculty of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Research will be pursued in Bible, Talmud, Hebrew Poetry and Jewish Mysticism. Research fellowships will be given to both faculty and qualified students.”
