Although 80 percent of the pupils in the Protestant schools in Outremont, a suburb of Montreal, are Jewish, the school authorities refuse to employ Jewish teachers, it was charged here at the fourth annual conference of the Quebec Federation of Home and School Associations. The conference decided to probe this discriminatory policy.
The refusal to employ Jewish teachers in the Outremont schools “virtually closes the teaching profession to the majority of high school students, ” the report stated. The report also expressed alarm over the increase in the number of Jewish parochial schools not only in Outremont but elsewhere in Montreal.
