Tributes to the leadership in Jewish community affairs of A. B. Cohen, who has accepted the chairmanship of the United Jewish Appeal of this city, were paid here last night by representatives of local and national organizations at a rally of Appeal workers. Among the speakers were Rabbi Max Arzt of this city and Isidor Coons of New York City, national campaign director of the Appeal. Scranton’s drive will be officially launched June 23 with Dr. Jacob Billikopf, chairman of the Philadelphia Reional Labor Board, as the principal speaker.
NEWARK OPENS ITS CAMPAIGN
Morris Rothenberg, president of the Zionist Organization of America, and Joseph C. Hyman, honorary secretary of the United Jewish Appeal were among the guest speakers at a mass meeting last night opening Newark’s fund-raising effort to obtain $50,000 for the relief and rehabilitation of the Jews of Europe and the settlement of Jews in Palestine.
