Officials of Beth Israel Synagogue, which was badly damaged in the floods which followed Hurricane Diane, were undecided today whether to continue work on restoring the edifice after its second flooding in last week’s storms or to seek a new home.
The new floods did no further damage to the structure but the cellar was filled with water and slime, necessitating a cleaning and disinfecting job. Congregation officials are dubious over completing the reconstruction job since flood control measures that would protect the building will not be completed for two or three years. Some $1,250 has been received in contributions towards the task of rebuilding the synagogue.
