Secret rites marked the funeral of Col. Alfred Dreyfus here today. He was laid to rest in the presence of the members of his family only.
Fearing possible untoward incidents, a report was spread throughout the city that the funeral was being postponed. At the same time the family of the deceased was urged by the authorities to effectuate the rites in strict secrecy.
There is great speculation here as to the contents of the Dreyfus memoirs and the revelations contained therein. According to the Dreyfus will, the memoirs which he wrote during the latter years of his life are to be published now that he is dead.
The family of Col. Dreyfus is receiving messages of condolence from all over the world.
The entire French press devotes lengthy reviews to the Dreyfus affair. It praises Dreyfus editorially for the reserve which he showed after the affair was over.
The anti-Semitic daily L’action Francaise is the only newspaper to publish an anti-Dreyfus article. The paper accuses Dreyfus of having been a slacker during the last war, and asserts that he allegedly confessed treason.
