Secretary General Kurt Waldheim has sent a letter to the Yiddish poet. Wolf Pasmanik, thanking him for his “inspiring poem” which was dedicated to the UN chief executive. The poem, “Peace is my Dream,” was written in Yiddish with an English translation in a parallel column. The poem said, in part: “Peace is my dream…/I dream it under stars/ My peace…that peace/May it be accomplished/ From near and afar.” Waldheim wrote to Pasmanik, “This most thoughtful gesture is very warmly appreciated.” Pasmanik has had several books of poems published and is active in various poetry circles in New York and other cities.
