Secretary of State Colin Powell stressed on Thursday that an expected war against Iraq would not be fought for Israel’s benefit. “It is driven by our own national interests,” Powell told the U.S. House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee. “It is driven by us trying to help the United Nations do its job. It is driven by our concern for the people of Iraq.”
