Secretary of State Cyrus Vance Wednesday rejected the proposal by King Hussein of Jordan to discard the Camp David formula for the settlement of the Arab-Israeli situation and stressed that the Egyptian-Israeli talks for autonomy for the West Bank and Gaza will be continued. Hussein made this proposal in an interview earlier this week in Amman with Western journalists. Vance said the U.S. is “deeply committed” to the autonomy talks and “I consider it of extreme importance” to pursue the talks “to a successful conclusion.”
