Secretary of State Edward R. Stettinius, Jr. today appeared before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to answer questions on the Palestine resolution which is now being considered by the Committee.
The Committee meeting was held in camera. It was decided to hold the measure over until Friday, Chairman Tom Connally revealed.
The House Rules Committee in the meantime deferred action until tomorrow on the plea for a rule to get the Palestine resolution considered on the floor of the House. The plea was made by Rep. Sol Bloom, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee which last week approved the resolution.
Members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee today received a telegram from Rabbi Israel Goldstein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, asking them to report out the Palestine resolution. “It is important to remove the word ‘ultimately’ which has already led to misunderstanding. It is likewise important to retain in the resolution the word ‘Jewish’ before the word ‘Commonwealth’,” the telegram urged.
