Behind-the-scenes activity continued here today as members of the Security Council, led by U.S. Ambassador Arthur J. Goldberg and Senjin Tsuruoka, of Japan, this month’s Council president, tried again to hammer out some agreement on a draft resolution acceptable to all parties concerned for possible measures to solve the Middle East crisis.
So far, no agreement has been reached, either by the majority of the Council members or by the Arab and Israeli delegations, on the wording of a resolution or the timing of a Council meeting which Mr. Goldberg, Mr. Tsuruoka and Secretary-General Thant had hoped to convene for Tuesday. Mr. Tsuruoka, who met with the 10 non-permanent Council members last week –without result — will confer with these 10 again today in an effort to reach agreement on a draft resolution regarding the Mideast crisis.
