Israeli security forces and civil defense groups maintained a tight cordon around the Lebanese border and stood guard in towns and villages throughout Upper Galilee today to foil possible terrorist assaults on the occasion of the 27th anniversary of Israel’s independence and the Shavuot holiday, Shells were fired from Lebanon yesterday at Shetuallah settlement without causing casualties or damage. Israeli artillery fired back but no further incidents were reported.
Security forces nevertheless were at peak strength along the northern borders. Road blocks were set up on all roads to check traffic and settlements are on the alert.
