Security measures were tightened this morning at Lydda Airport. Incoming passengers are now requested to identify their luggage which is taken off the luggage compartment while still near the plane. Only then are the passengers escorted to the passport control lounge and to the customs hall where the luggage arrives under guard. In spite of this additional inconvenience to passengers traffic at the airport was normal. Thirty flights took off this morning and many more later in the day. El Al had 11 flights today though one of her Boeings had to be taken out of service for several days as it was slightly damaged by machine gun fire.
