Security was stepped up at synagogues and Jewish neighborhoods in New York City. The move is being taken amid fears of retaliatory strikes on Jewish targets after Israel’s assassination of Hamas leader Sheik Ahmed Yassin on Monday. New York City’s police chief, Raymond Kelly, said there were no specific threats behind the stepped-up efforts.
