The elimination of Jews from the German army under the new conscription law does not affect the self-respect and the honor of the German Jews, the Association of Jewish War Veterans declared in a statement today.
“This is because the Jews are barred from the army not for lack of the proper qualifications but for their racial origin,” the statement continues. “The facts have proven once and for all that in peace or in war the Jewish soldiers, whether privates or officers, stood their test with honor.”
Dr. Alfred Hirschberg, one of the leaders of the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith, addressing a meeting on the “realities of our Jewish situation,” said that there are today three aspects of the Jewish problem in Germany: citizenship, economic life and cultural activity.
