Two widely separated actions by terrorists yesterday indicated that El Fatah may be opening new fronts against Israel, one on the previously quiescent Lebanese border and the other in the Sinai, military sources said today. The mining of two command cars in the northern Sinai took the lives of three Israeli soldiers and injured seven others. The mortar shelling of Kibbutz Manera, in northwest Galilee, caused no casualties or damage but was the first incident of its kind on the Lebanese border in almost a year. The source observed that recent statements by Lebanese leaders and by President Nasser of Egypt, left little hope that the incidents were no more than single attacks.
The Lebanese Government has denied that the attack on Manera was made from its territory but an investigation in the region confirmed that the mortars were fired from the direction of Lebanon. Egyptian commandos and/or El Fatah units are held responsible for the planting of mines in the Romani.
