Dr. Isidore Mes, attorney for the family of Anneke Beekman, 12-year-old Jewish girl whose Catholic foster mother refuses to return here, has called on the public prosecutor to act against the Catholic woman.
The foster mother, Miss H. Van Moorst of Hilversum, in whose care the child was left during the Nazi occupation of Holland, has spirited the child away and refuses to divulge her whereabouts to the family. The girl is believed to be in a convent.
Efforts by the Jewish community to obtain support from the Catholic heirarchy in the Netherlands for the return of the child have proved fruitless. Several months ago Dutch Chief Rabbi Justis Tal appealed to the ranking Catholic bishop, but received a reply which held out little hope of assistance.
