Loss of an original manuscript on sheepskin, known as “The Seventh Book of Moses,” was alleged in a suit asking $100,000 damages filed Saturday, Sept. 22, in the Superior Court against an insurance company which had issued a policy on the parchment. The suit was brought by Abram J. Mallick against the Sun Insurance Company, Limited of London.
Mr. Mallick’s suit alleged that a $75,000 policy was written about a year ago on the manuscript which consisted of eleven rolls of parchment. According to the declaration, the manuscript was stolen February 10 last from Mr. Mallick’s home, 2730 St. Paul Street. It was stated the loss was “by theft, growing out of a burglarious or felonious entry.”
The police and the insurance company were notified of the loss, it was asserted, but the company has failed to pay the insurance.
