Selective Service Says Jews May Ask Deferment on Exams, Induction at Passover

The Selective Service System has announced that Jewish registrants may request deferment from their local draft boards for physical examinations or induction into the armed forces which are scheduled immediately before or during the Passover holidays. Gen. Lewis B. Hershey, director of the Selective Service, has asked draft boards to give “favorable consideration” to such requests wherever possible, the National Jewish Welfare Board announced.
