A Magistrates Court has dismissed charges against Toronto’s self-styled Nazi, John Beattie, who was charged with using abusive language in an anti-Semitic speech he made in a city park last May 5. The charge, which was dismissed on a technicality, was brought up by the City of Toronto on the basis of a local by-law prohibiting the use of such language. Magistrate S. Tupper Bigelow agreed with Mr. Beattie’s counsel that the applicable section of the by-law was invalid because it infringed on the Federal jurisdiction over civil law. Mr. Beattie had referred to “the stinking (Canadian) Jewish Congress” and claimed that the Talmud teaches Jews to cheat Christians.
