Sen. William Benton of Connecticut said in a broadcast today that he would see President Truman soon to urge him to veto the McCarran Immigration Bill. He said he would also ask the President to aid in lining up members of the Senate to support the veto of the measure.

The Connecticut Senator denounced the McCarran Bill as “the worst bill I have ever seen” and said it included in it all the worst features of the 155 existing laws covering immigration. He denounced features of the bill which created a “second-class citizenship” and warned that in its impact abroad, the bill would destroy friendly sentiments created by the Mutual Security aid program.
