Sen. Henry Jackson (D. Wash.) called on President Carter Sunday night to work with Israel and Egypt and other countries without delay, to provide bases and military support to insure the security of the Persian Gulf countries against Soviet “covert” aggression. Jackson made the remarks in an address to B’nai Zion’s 72nd annual award dinner here. He said “Israel and Egypt can play a key role in Mideast security. The real immediate threat to Persian Gulf countries, outside of Iran, is not an overt Soviet move across national borders but covert move from within–subversion by planned armed uprising.”
