U.S. Senator Irving M. Ives tonight called for passage of a national law against discrimination in employment and the “enactment of civil rights legislation generally,” at a dinner at the Waldorf-Astoria tendered on behalf of the Joint Defense Appeal. More than 350 prominent business, professional and civic leaders attended.
Proceeds of the dinner benefitted the current campaign of the Joint Defense Appeal to raise $3,000,000 in the New York area to support the programs of the American Jewish Committee and Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith for combatting prejudice and discrimination and extending democratic liberties.
