Sen. Joseph Lieberman (D-Conn.) agreed to be the Democratic Party’s candidate for vice president after he got “the call” from Al Gore. Lieberman, who is an Orthodox Jew, said he and Gore “said a short prayer together” during their phone conversation. Hours earlier, a grateful Lieberman spoke of the “truth and passion” of the “American dream for everybody” after it became clear that Gore had chosen him as a running mate.
