Senator Estes Kefauver of Tennessee urged Israel and the Arab states tonight “to undertake cooperatively under the auspices of the United Nations a kind of Tennessee Valley Authority for the Jordan River Valley.”
Speaking at an Israel Bond dinner, he asserted that the TVA here in the United States has added greatly to the economic wealth of the entire nation, and declared; “The same results could be achieved in the Middle East, if the nations would just bury their differences long enough to start the development–if they would just raise their sights high enough to realize that the lot of both Arabs and Jews could be immensely improved by the proper development of the resources there at hand.”
