SEN. LEHMAN CHARGES U.S. WITH “SURRENDER” ON GENOCIDE PART
Sen. Herbert H. Lehman told the nationalities division of the Democratic National Committee that the “surrender” by the present Administration “on the human rights front and on the Genocide Convention is one of the more shameful of our recent episodes,” noting that even the Soviet Union this week ratified the Genocide Convention. The Senator said the Administration “refuses to call on the leadership of the Senate to press for action on the Genocide Convention. “
(The New York Times, in an editorial, today, states that “the Russian decision to ratify the genocide pact brings to forty-four the number of countries which have now ratified the pact and emphasizes the lamentable position of our Government on this treaty.” The editorial urges the Congress to ratify the genocide treaty “and meet the Russian challenge positively. “)
