A comprehensive program involving a change in American policy regarding Israel and the Middle East was outlined here by Senator Hugh Scott, Pennsylvania Republican, in an address before the 38th national convention of the Mizrachi Women’s Organization of America. The Senator also called for “emphatic” U.S. Government condemnation of Soviet anti-Semitism.
The convention went into its third day today, with delegates from 37 states and the District of Columbia, representing 50,000 members in 350 chapters and regions, attending the parley. The convention is slated to last until Wednesday.
Senator Scott, who was given the organization’s America-Israel Friendship Award, told the Mizrachi women that President Kennedy was not getting the kind of advice he should receive regarding the Middle East. The Senator called for a change in policy, including severance of U.S. aid to Egypt, a collective defense agreement with Israel, American initiative for Arab-Israeli peace talks, and steps to bring Israel into closer ties with the Atlantic community. The Mizrachi women telegraphed President Kennedy, asking him to implement the Scott proposals.
