Sen. Symington Appointed Head of Senate’s Near Eastern Subcommittee

Senator Stuart Symington, Missouri Democrat, was appointed today chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Near Eastern subcommittee.

This consultative body will deal with the Arab-Israel issue and other regional matters. It will hold hearings from time to time and maintain close touch with the State Department on regional developments.

The appointment of Sen. Symington was made by Sen. J. W. Fulbright, Arkansas-Democrat, chairman of the Senate committee. Senator Fulbright will serve as an ex-officio member of the subcommittee.
