Support for the State of Israel was expressed by Senator Robert H. Taft. Republican majority leader, in a speech read for him by one of his sons at a dinner here of the National Conference of Christians and Jews. He pointed out that the Arab refugee problem was due “partly through the intolerance” of the Arab leaders, and added that as a result of this problem “there is a constant building up” of hatred against Israel.
Sen. Taft, who has been hospitalized in Washington since early this week, praised the National Conference of Christians and Jews and said that any doubt as to the need for continuing such an organization would be eliminated in the minds of anyone who could see the volume of anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic literature that he received.
