Senate Banking Chairman Alfonse D’Amato (R-N.Y.) introduced legislation authorizing the United States to pay Holocaust survivors groups up to $25 million. D’Amato said the Holocaust Victims Redress Act attempts to make good on a promise the U.S. government made after World War II to “provide relief to Holocaust survivors” who lost assets during the war. Similar legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives.
