Hearings on constitutional rights will be begun by a Senate subcommittee October 3 when the unit starts taking testimony on freedom of religion and separation of church and state, Sen. Thomas C. Hennings. Jr., of Missouri, has announced.
He revealed that the subcommittee will also devote two weeks–beginning October 17–to hearings on freedom of speech and the press. Four weeks’ worth of hearings on the right of assembly will begin November 14, Sen. Hennings said. He revealed that the subcommittee will review the Bill of Rights “amendment by amendment and clause by clause.” The unit has been voted $50,000 for the study.
