Sen. Homer Ferguson moved today before the Senate Judiciary Committee that the Judiciary subcommittee handling the DP bill be discharged from further consideration of the measure.
Meanwhile, acting Democratic leader Sen. Francis J. Myers threatened that if the Judiciary Committee does not report out a bill tomorrow the administration will immediately take up a motion to discharge the Committee and bring the House-approved Caller Bill directly to the Senate floor. However, Judiciary chairman Sen. Pat McCarran has cabled from Europe urging continued delay of DP legislation which would liberalize the admission requirements of the old DP act. President Truman condemned the old act as discriminatory against Jews and Catholics.
